Pretty Owl Poetry accepts previously unpublished poems, flash fiction, and art. We are open for submissions year round and publish quarterly with the seasons. Please carefully read our guidelines for the category you are submitting to.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know IMMEDIATELY. You can add a note to Submittable (preferred) or email us at prettyowlpoetry [at] gmail [dot] com. Seriously, we prefer not to use shouty caps in our guidelines, but we really need to know ASAP if your work is no longer available.

We ask that authors wait to hear back from us before sending in another submission.

If you have any questions about the submission process please email the editors at prettyowlpoetry [at] gmail [dot] com. Any submissions sent via email will be deleted without response.

All donations to the tip jar will be used for the maintenance of our website and all overhead costs. We do not favor submissions that use this option, but we do extend our gratitude to you for donating.

Please submit between 3-5 poems for consideration at a time. All poems should be in one file. Please do not send less than three poems in one submission. If one of your poems gets picked up elsewhere PLEASE NOTIFY US.  We hate using shouty caps but even more than that we hate falling in love with a poem only to find out as we're standing on your doorstep with flowers that someone else also fell in love with it and now you two are a thing and you totally walk past us and jump on the back of their motorcycle and ride off in a cloud of dust. This world is already cruel enough, just drop us a note on Submittable and we'll make eyes at the next poem in the batch or the next submission. No hard feelings, we promise.

For flash fiction, please submit no more than three works at a time. We adore prose-poetry style flash fiction and the word count should not exceed 1,000 words, if possible. We're open to publishing multiple works by one author, so short story series are welcome.

All images must be submitted in a JPEG format (file name extension: .jpg). Please visit past issues to get a feel for the kind of art we like to feature on our cover and the inside of each issue.

We recommend uploading files that are 72 pixels per inch since we’re an online journal (high resolution photos will not add clarity when viewing on a screen). Below are recommended image sizes:

Landscape: 600 x 495 pixels
Portrait: 480 pixels by 480 pixels

Maximum file size: 3.0 MB per image.
